As everyone knows, Medicare Part D can be confusing and frustrating when it is time to decide on a plan. There are resources in our community that care for seniors and the number one priority for these agencies is to provide services such as assistance with Medicare Part D to make choosing a plan as simple as possible. Both Montgomery Area Council on Aging and Central Alabama Aging Consortium provide numerous services to seniors in the Tri-county area. For additional information on these agencies and the services that they provide, click on the links below.
MACOA (Montgomery Area Council on Aging) is a helpful resource in aiding our customers in understanding their Medicare Part D plans. MACOA can also assist with patient options and the Part D plans that would best meet the patient’s needs. If you are interested in Medicare Part D help, you MUST make an appointment with MACOA. The phone number to make an appointment is (334) 263-0532. There are several items that MACOA requests that you bring to your appointment. They are:
MACOA does much more than help with Medicare Part D. They offer services such as Meals on Wheels, Senior Centers, Transportation, Retrired Senior Volunteer Program, The Archibald Senior Center, Senior Disaster Preparedness and many other additional services. Central Alabama Aging Consortium (CAAC) offers an insurance counseling program (Alabama State Health Insurance Assistance Program – SHIP) to assist Medicare beneficiaries in Montgomery, Elmore and Autauga counties with information on Medicare, Medicaid, claims, medigap and long term care insurance, medicare/medigap deductibles and coinsurance. You may call 1-800-AGELINE (1-800-243-5463) to speak with someone with questions concerning your insurance program or you may make an appointment to speak with a volunteer in person. Anyone wishing to obtain assistance in person with the program must make an appointment with CAAC by calling (334) 240-4666. You will need to take the following items with you to your appointment:
CAAC provides many other services to the community other than insurance counseling. The services they provide are Ombudsman, Information and Assistance, Medicaid Waiver Home & Community based Services, Family Caregiver Support, Prescription Drug Assistance, Medicare Fraud, Legal Assistance, Public Education, Transportation, senior centers, Home delivered meals and offers volunteer opportunities.
